Ureteral Stones
Ureteral stones are stones that form in the urinary tract (Bladder Infection Causes | Catheter). Most patients with ureteral stones associate them with extreme pain. The pain starts as the stone moves into the urinary tract, causing blockage and irritation (Bladder Pains and Irritants). A sharp, throbbing pain is felt in the back and on the side of the kidney, which radiates to the groin. Other symptoms of ureteral stones include blood in the urine, nausea, and vomiting.
Ureteral Stones Symptoms
Ureteral Stones If the stone is too big to pass naturally, painful sensations can be felt as the muscles in the urinary tract (Gluten Sensitivity And Urinary Tract) attempt to squeeze the stone along. In certain scenarios with male patients, if the stone is close to the lower end of the ureter, the patient will constantly feel like they have not completely urinated. In certain scenarios, ureteral stones are asymptomatic (Bladder Stone Removal). However, being asymptomatic does not mean that the stone is dormant. Stones usually grow in size, and when they have grown enough to cause pain, that’s when all of the other symptoms start.Stones that are as small as 2mm. in length have caused several symptoms, while larger stones may be easily passed without any problems. Infections are highly possible and patients who have the stones with infections usually experience a fever as well. Patients who experience a fever are advised to contact their Urologist (Painful Bladder Syndrome) immediately.
Ureteral Stones Diagnosis
Ureteral Stones are diagnosed by taking an X-ray or sonogram to confirm the location of the ureteral stone. In certain cases, the need to use a computed tomography (Tomography Wiki Page) scan, or CT scan is warranted. CT scans are highly effective diagnostic tools to detect all types of ureteral stones.
Ureteral Stones Treatment
Ureteral Stones are usually treated by making the pain bearable for the patient so they can let the natural passing process take place. The stone will eventually pass and the pain will subside. Urologists may recommend several pain killers to numb the patient during the process. A heavy consumption of liquids may also help in passing the ureteral stone. In cases when it cannot be passed naturally, a surgical treatment needs to be performed to remove the ureteral stone. For more information on Ureteral Stones email us info@drelist.com or call 1-310-652-2600 to speak with a physician that can better assist you with any further questions you may have.
