PSA Test Importance | Prostate Health Awareness Month
September is prostate health awareness month and with it brings the importance of raising public awareness to the importance of prostate health, diseases and concerns. Prostate-specific antigen, or PSA, is a protein produced by cells of the prostate gland. The PSA test measures the level of PSA in a man’s blood and can help with the diagnoses of the following frequent prostate issues in men:
Most common prostate diseases (that are reported in males over 40 years of age) are:
- Benign hypertrophy or enlargement of the prostate gland
- Inflammation of prostate (also known as prostatitis – it may be acute or chronic)
- Malignancy of prostate (Prostate cancer)
